Unnamed Tower Defence Game
A short Tower Defence game, with custom graphics, interesting tower mechanics and a focus on the casual experience.
This game is intended to be a short project, as something I can release as a showcase of both my technical and artistic abilities.
The simple premise for this game is that you are trying to defend a castle from monsters, but in order to unlock new towers, you must capture the monsters. I believe this idea to be somewhat novel in the genre and it allows for a pixel-art art style, which is something I have not had too much experience in before.
Early development is going well, functionality for the core game-loop is already in place and so the technical side has slowed down as the design side creates the enemies and related turrets.
Unlike the TCG I am working on, this game is not intended to be live-service and therefore has no such upkeep requirement, other than the usual expectation of required patches for bug-fixes after release.
The biggest challenge here is the artwork, or more specifically, settling on a style. Many prototype characters have already been developed, and future ideas have been documented, however the issue of style persists. It seems likely that this will be resolved once more prototypes have been developed, but for now it is the only real problem that the project is facing.
I am aiming for the release build to contain 20 unique "base" enemies, 5 unique "boss" enemies and 20 towers (based on the "base" enemies), which should generally equal about 1 hour of gameplay for each playthrough.
